Snoop Dogg Raps at Consensus 2018 After-Party

If you thought New York’s Blockchain Week, popular as the Consensus 2018, was a thing for just entrepreneurs and experts to discuss, you might be mistaken.

With Ripple Labs inviting Snoop Dogg to perform at the after-party, Consensus 2018 was something everyone was talking about. The after-party was held at a secret location in the Meatpacking District in Manhattan.

The 46-year-old American rapper was chosen to entertain the crowd of crypto enthusiasts attending the Ripple Labs-sponsored after-party at Consensus 2018. Ripple enthusiasts and skeptics were brought together in the invitation-only XRP Community Night. Everyone enjoyed the sound of the famous artist with the smell of marijuana.

Having Snoop Dogg headline the event, things turned rather controversial. Brad Garlinghouse, the CEO of Ripple, stated that the intention behind the concert was to build a community around XRP—the intention was never to build a hype around the cryptocurrency. He said that he didn’t choose Snoop Dogg for the concert.

Regardless of whether he chose Snoop Dogg or not, Snoop Dogg certainly has certainly chosen cryptocurrency parties. He had been the guest of honor and DJ at the ICO of SparkleCoin last year which managed to raise an estimated 15 million USD. The rapper’s presence at the event, however, was not a celebrity endorsement and was instead for a charitable donation.

The rapper has been making comments about cryptocurrencies for quite a while now. Back in 2013, he had tweeted that his next record would be made available in Bitcoin. Coinbase and Bitpay then approached him to make help him with it.

Aware about recent celebrity endorsements which went the wrong way, Snoop Dogg refrained from discussing investing in cryptocurrencies at the event. According to the representatives of Ripple Labs, the rapper wasn’t even paid in XRP for his performance at the after-party.

Snoop Dogg closed the night by asking the audience if they wanted to smoke some weed with him.
