Hollywood Actor Kurt Russell to Star in a Cryptocurrency Movie

An upcoming indie movie on cryptocurrencies is going to have Kurt Russell starring with a number of other performers.

The movie, titled Crypto, will feature famous Hollywood actors like Kurt Russell, Alexis Bledel, Luke Hemsworth, and Jeremie Harris, to name a few. The Hollywood Reporter reports that the movie, directed by John Stalberg Jr., focuses on a very young anti-money laundering agent (Beau Knapp) tasked to investigate a tangled case of fraud and corruption in his hometown in New York. Russell will be seen playing the role of the agent’s father in the movie.

Crypto’s producers have dubbed it as “a thriller in the vein of The Firm and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” – but with a new crypto-focused twist. Carlyle Eubank and David Frigerio are the writers of the indie film.

The Hollywood Reporter has quoted Jordan Yale Levine, one of the producers of the movie, as saying:

“Cryptocurrency has captured the attention and imagination of consumers and entrepreneurs all over the world but has never been explored in film in such a nuanced and exciting way.”

Crypto is currently being shot in New York. However, the release date has not yet been announced by the filmmakers.

The indie film may be one of the best high-profile films focused on cryptocurrencies. It was reported last year that the Coen brothers were working on a Silk Road movie, the free anonymous market that used a cryptocurrency as its central currency. Coen brothers are the filmmakers behind some successful movies like No Country For Old Men and The Big Lebowski.

Crypto is not the only notable movie based on a cryptocurrency theme. Bitcoin Heist, a Vietnamese movie, marks yet another notable, albeit a bit unusual, movie on the theme. The movie involved a high-stakes, international manhunt.
