Gallup Poll Indicates That Only 2% Americans Invest In Bitcoin
According to a Gallup Investor and Retirement Optimism Index Poll, only 2% of the surveyed Americans invest in Bitcoin. The poll is based on United States adults who have at least $10,000 invested in things like bonds, mutual funds, and stocks. The survey further revealed that 26% of US residents are ‘intrigued’ by Bitcoin but don’t have any interest in investing in it. Only 1 % of the surveyed individuals said that they would be interested in buying Bitcoin in the future.
According to the Gallup Poll, American investors find Bitcoin risky, however, young investors are willing to invest money in it if it were to become more mainstream. The report authored by Lydia Sadd states,
Bitcoin, the leading form of digital currency that has seen its price soar, crash and rise again in the past year, has made little headway with U.S. investors.
75% of the investors surveyed said that they thought that Bitcoin was too risky, while 23% of the investors said that they found the cryptocurrency to be ‘somewhat risky’. Around 2% said that Bitcoin investments were not risky, while only 0.5% said that these investments weren’t risky at all.
The study concluded that because most investors found Bitcoin to be risky, American investors prefer security overgrowth and they prefer to play it safe with their investments.
Sadd noted in the report,
Looking to the future, however, many younger investors who currently say they are intrigued may be converted to investors once the currency goes more mainstream.
The study also concluded that ownership was more common among the wealthier investors(those who earn $90,000 a year or more) while low income investors don’t invest as much.
29% of investors polled said that they were knowledgeable about cryptocurrencies,67% said that they had heard the names of some but didn’t know much about them and 5% had never heard of any type of digital currency.
