According to an announcement made by DISH , a popular United States Satellite provider, the company will now start accepting Bitcoin Cash (BCH) payments. Not a newcomer to the crypto industry, the service provider started accepting Bitcoin back in 2014.
John Swieringa, executive vice president and COO of DISH,talked about the addition of BCH by saying,
We’ve added Bitcoin Cash just as we chose to accept Bitcoin to serve customers who have adopted a new way of doing business. We have a steady volume of customers paying with cryptocurrency each month, and BitPay will allow us to continue offering more choice and convenience to our customers.
This allows DISH users to pay for their monthly subscription services using Bitcoin and BCH. However, these payments will only be possible as a one time transaction rather than recurring transactions a user may set up with credit cards.
Along with this announcement, is linked the news of DISH’s association and switch over to BitPay, as the company’s cryptocurrency processor. Sonny Singh, the chief commercial officer of BitPay commented on the partnership with DISH stating,
Our goal for DISH Network is a seamless transition to BitPay so all customers who are currently paying for services with Bitcoin continue to have the option to pay with Bitcoin or Bitcoin Cash. Cryptocurrency is an increasingly popular way for consumers to make purchases online as it reduces credit card fraud and is cheaper for the merchants.
According to DISH, BitPay can exchange payments to U.S. Dollars at the time of the transactions without the risk associated with volatility of cryptocurrency. Previously, BitPay, the cryptocurrency payments processor had acquired a virtual currency license from New York’s Department of Financial Services.
In 2014, DISH became the first company in the television industry that accepted payments in cryptocurrency.
